Today’s Word – John 7:1-13

After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him. But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles was near, Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” For even his own brothers did not believe in him.

Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do. The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil. You go to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.” After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee.

10 However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret. 11 Now at the festival the Jewish leaders were watching for Jesus and asking, “Where is he?”

12 Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, “He is a good man.”

Others replied, “No, he deceives the people.” 13 But no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the leaders.

Let’s discuss one of the primary results of the Holy Spirit, which is to proclaim the Word of God. In multiple instances in the Book of Acts we see that when the Holy Spirit moves, prophecy is the result. It’s important to note that when God promised to pour out his Spirit in Joel, the result was predicted to be prophetic visions and dreams. Peter in his Continue reading “The Holy Spirit and Prophecy”

Speaking in Tongues Edifies

Need to dry your nail polish instantly_This week we are focusing on the subject of speaking in tongues. We’ve talked about praying in tongues and we’ve touched on Paul’s discussion of wordless groans from Romans. We spent a great deal of time on this week’s episode of the Everyday Jesus podcast discussing this issue. If you haven’t listened to it, you can catch up now by clicking the play button below:

One of the more encouraging aspects of speaking in tongues is the fact that Paul says that tongues can be just as valuable as prophecy if the tongue is interpreted. Admitting Your ProblemIn case you missed it, I released part of my testimony on podcast this week. You can listen to it here:

I wanted to expand a little on one of the themes – admitting your problems. In my story, I’m telling you about the issues I had as a teenager, but these issues are universal. People of all ages find themselves doing things they ought not be doing. The real issue though, is that few people can bring themselves to admit it.
